What is Pittsburgh International Children's Theater?
Pittsburgh International Children's Theater is a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
organization, started in 1969 as "Performing Arts for Children." The organization
presents the best in performing and visual theater arts for families with
children ages 3 to 12. Pittsburgh International Children's Theater presents
a Family Series each October through March at affordable prices in
several convenient venues. The organization also presents the International
Children's Festival each May. the 2008 Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival will debut May 14-18 at a new site in Oakland with the Festival grounds to be located on the lawns of the University of Pittsburgh campus and Schenley Plaza.
Where
is the theater?
Pittsburgh International Children's Theater does not have a bricks-and-mortar
location. We bring professional theater to your neighborhood! Family Series
Shows are presented at several convenient theaters and auditoriums in
the Pittsburgh region. We strive to present each of the Family Series show in at least one location
North, South, East, West, and Downtown.
The International Children's Festival
is held each May.
Now in its 22nd year, the 2008 Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival will debut May 14-18 at a new site in Oakland with the Festival grounds to be located on the lawns of the University of Pittsburgh campus and Schenley Plaza. Performances will be featured at the Charity Randall Theater, Bellefield Theater, and Studio Theater on the University of Pittsburgh campus and Synod Hall, adjacent to St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Where are the Family Series shows presented?
Show locations vary. Our most frequently programmed locations include
the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh, Moon High School in Moon Township
(West), Gateway High School in Monroeville (East), Mt. Lebanon High
School in Mt. Lebanon (South Hills), and Pine-Richland High School in
Gibsonia (North Hills). When these locations aren't available, we present at
other school locations in the same area. Special presentations have also been offered at the Kelly-Strayhorn
Theater in East Liberty.
How long are the shows?
Family Series shows are generally about one hour in length. Some performances
include an audience question and answer session which may extend the length
of performance time.

How can I purchase tickets?
You can order online, via phone, or by postal mail. If online ordering is not yet available, please call our offices at 412-321-5520. You
may also call this number to request an order form.
What are the box office hours?
The box office is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours
vary during performance weeks. The box office may be reached by calling
412-321-5520.
Do I need a ticket for my baby?
Children under age 2 are free, but we issue a lap pass. All children age 2 and over must have a
ticket.
Are your venues handicapped accessible?
Yes. Please notify us when placing your order or call the office in advance so we can ensure that the accommodations are ready and reserved for you.
Do you offer interpreters for performances?
Yes. Please call the office to make arrangements in advance, 412-321-5520.
Is food available at Family Series performances?
Food is usually not available at performances; no food or drink is permitted in any of the theaters. On occasion, small treats
are available for purchase as a fundraiser for the organization but must be consumed before or after the performance.
Can I have a birthday party at a Pittsburgh
International Children's Theater performance?
Yes. Birthday parties can be scheduled for up to 15 children and generally take place before a performance. Only
select locations have facilites to host a child's birthday party; please call to inquire whether your favored location offers
them. Fee includes
tickets and party room, decorations, coloring sheets, preferred seating, and a chance to meet the performers after the show (food, favors, prizes etc. are not included). Please
call the office at 412-321-5520 to make arrangements at least six weeks in advance.
Where can I park for the Family Series?
Free parking is available in the high school lots at each high school auditorium performance.
For the Byham Theater, several parking garages are located within walking distance, including one directly across from the theater on
Sixth Street.
Do children perform in your productions?
No, children do not usually perform in our productions. Our shows feature
professional actors with years of training in touring theater companies from around the world.
Do you offer acting classes for children?
At this time we do not offer acting classes for children.
Are Pittsburgh International Children's Theater
tickets refundable?
No. All sales are final. Tickets may, however, be exchanged for any available performance of the same production.
Please call the office at 412-321-5520 to make arrangements in advance, so we can ensure that there will be seats available for you.
How do you select your performances?
Pittsburgh International Children's Theater searches the world over to
find the very best in international performing and visual theater arts.
To have your production considered, please submit a video tape and brochure
to the attention of Artistic Director, Pittsburgh International Children's
Theater, 182 Allegheny Center Mall, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
How much do Family Series tickets cost?
Ticket costs range depending on the package you select. The best value is always a Series Subscription. Please purchase
in advance for the best available pricing. Please refer to the tickets
page for more information.
Will my tickets be mailed to me?
Your tickets will be mailed to you if you place your order 7 days or
more before the opening of a production.
Does Pittsburgh International Children's Theater
charge a handling or service charge?
Yes. Each order is subject to a mandatory $3.00 handling fee. This fee
allows the organization to keep ticket prices affordable. This fee may
not be waived for any reason.
Do your performances sell out?
Yes, performances often sell out in advance, especially Festival performances and Family Series shows at the Byham Theater. Please call the office
at 412-321-5520 to determine if seats are still available.
Do you offer reserved seating?
Yes. Our Patrons are offered preferred seating. Patrons
make an annual family contribution of $75 or greater to the Family Series.
All other seating is general admission.
What is a Patron?
Patrons are families or individuals who contribute $75 or more per year
to help support the Family Series. They received preferred seating, a chance to meet the performers, and recognition in the playbill.
How do I support Pittsburgh International Children's
Theater?
Pittsburgh International Children's Theater relies on the support of volunteers,
donors, and businesses. Donations may be mailed to the administrative office
with a completed donor form.
How can I volunteer?
Individuals or groups interested in volunteering should contact the office
at 412-321-5520 or fill out and send a volunteer
form.
How can I find out if shows are rescheduled due
to inclement weather?
Shows generally occur as scheduled because the performers travel from
around the world to appear in Pittsburgh. Inclement weather may very occasionally
cause a show to be rescheduled. Families are notified via an email address
(if provided at time of order) or by phone, and cancellation information is also recorded on
on our office answering machine.

Festival?
The International Children's Festival is one of only four theater festivals
for children in the United States! It's held each May. The Festival features international theater
performances for children and families as well as free, hands-on educational and recreational
activities, roving performers, workshops, games, and more!

The Festival is traditionally held in mid-May. For 2008 the dates are Wednesday, May 14 through Sunday, May 18.

Bus parking is provided. Group leaders receive parking assignments and
