Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (Canada)

mermaidtheatre.ns.ca

Two of Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd’s beloved bedtime classics, Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny come to life on stage with whimsical puppetry and evocative music. Both tales feature endearing rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter, while dream-like imagery never fails to infuse young readers with a reassuring sense of security and peace.

Farfalle: The Butterfly Garden

TPO

(Italy)

tpo.it

Imagine the life of a butterfly. From a tiny egg wriggles a larva that grows into a caterpillar. Munching away, the caterpillar soon spins a silvery shell to disguise its transformation. Suddenly: fluttering, dancing wings that flit for perhaps one day.

Now imagine that you are in the butterfly’s world. You can touch the wings, the wings whirr away, the sun glints on your face, shadows trace along the ground as you hear the wings beat. In Farfalle, the audience enters a virtual world to become part of the action. Two actors, digital imagery, and sensors that interact in real time with the actors’ movements on a shifting landscape of sound, motion, and astonishing images to capture this delicate realm. TPO unleashs the beauty and expressive possibilities in mixing theatre, sensory boundaries, dance, visual magic, music, and emotion.

Plus! Special Interactive Installation Sessions allow participants to be enveloped in this beautiful atmosphere—creating your own theatrical art as the piece itself responds to you.

Kraft

Bambalina

(Spain)

bambalina.es

Never before has recycling been so imaginative, playful and eye-opening. Enter a world where an everyday object’s conventional use is transformed into something magical. Kraft paper becomes an instrument of nature, creating the sounds of crashing waves, rustling leaves, and the crackling of a fire’s flames. Audiences are reminded that it was once a tree which provided oxygen that we need to live and breathe. In a time when the planet’s resources are scarce, we are reminded of their preciousness and our responsibility to eliminate waste.

Harmony Street

Resonance Percussion

(USA)

resonancepercussion.com

Through their work with Gateway to the Arts, Resonance Percussion has been educating children grades K-12 about world music since 2005. In this first production of Harmony Street, written especially for the 23rd Annual Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival, the audience is introduced to music from four distinct world cultures through a small boy’s journey through the neighborhood during an annual block party.  Once denied the opportunity to play the drums, the boy learns the power of world music and its ability to communicate. Children will not only learn and acquire an appreciation for the music of Ghana, Brazil, Trinidad and American Jazz through storytelling, live musical performances, and projected visual illustrations, but will also celebrate world music through audience participation in the finale.
